Oceanografic and Museum of science in Valencia

entrance

Even if you’ re not into science, opera music or animals, the city of arts and science in Valencia is worth seeing for its breathtaking architecture.ย  We managed to visit only two of its buildings . Oceanarium is the biggest oceanarium in Europe and it was built in the shape of water lily.

While land animals of bioparc made no impression on Misike, water animals in oceanarium absolutely enraptured him. We spent hours watching all sorts of fishes and ocean creatures and he just didn’t have enough. The culmination of the trip was dolphin show. Magic!

It was the last stop on our “to visit” list though, that i was looking forward to the most. Prince Felipe’s museum of science is another architectural masterpiece, that resembles the skeleton of a whale. I was dying to see it but I worried my little ones would find it boring. Fortunately, I was wrong. There were many exhibition rooms, each dedicated to something different. We started with the vehicles build with legos. There were chariots, carriages, planes, balloons, ships and cars.

Each of us had their own favorite exhibition. Anabel, dinosaur lover, was enraptured by life size dinosaur skeletons. I loved the interactive exhibits about human body and genetics on the third floor the most. Misi was mostly interested in giant balloon and plane hanging from the museum ceiling. But we all were absolutely amazed by “Mars” exhibition. There was a scale that showed you your weight on different planets (I wish I could live on Uranus :-D), holograms of martians and quiz machine.

But of course, we spent most time watching chicks hatching from their eggs.

Oropesa

Last September we spent two wonderful weeks in Spain and it was everything I was hoping for. We got to visit interesting and beautiful places but also spent countless hours swimming in the sea, looking for seashellsย  and building sand castles.

We got there in the perfect time. September is off the season despite high temperatures and a very warm sea water, so there are few people on the beaches. It’s nice and quiet, just as like it.

Two things shocked me about Spain. First, it is nearly impossible to find there someone who can speak English and secondly it’s perfectly natural to sunbath topless. The first day we got to the beach, I thought that maybe we landed on the wrong beach but as I soon realized, it was same everywhere. What I noticed, the older breasts the more shameless. Perhaps with age we get more distance to ourselves and our bodies, or perhaps, we just don’t give a damn what others thing anymore. I wish to get that attitude some day.

Misi wanted to see the ruins of some castle in Oropesa. I wasn’t very excited about the idea of looking at some piles of stones and bricks in hot siesta hours but in the end I was so grateful we went. Those enchanting little streets on the way to the ruins were the most beautiful place I found in otherwise very touristic Oropesa.

During our trip I was happy to find three polish traces in Spain. There was a painting of sister Faustina in st James’ church in Oropesa and another one of John Paul II in Castellon de la playa. And finally, there was a book by Mikolaj Kopernik (Nicholas Copernicus) in the museum of science.

Today is the first day of school after a whole week off. For Halloween is such a big holiday here that every year kids get a full week of school. Yesterday we were all off so we put our boots on and set off for a farm. Misi found some farm one hour drive away but when we finally got there it turned out that it’s only open in summer. Luckily, kind farmer took pity on us and let us walk around and play with animals since we had come such a long way.

I find it a bit upsetting that my kids have such a rare contact with country animals and find them so exciting because I was raised in the village and that was my every- day reality.

Misike was so happy to feed goats with grass and little apples until one of the hens stole one of his apples. He was crying his eyes out while shouting “naughty chicken!”

Misike mial wiele radosci z karmienia koz trawa i malymi jabluszkami do czasu, gdy kura ukradla mu jedno z jabluszek. Plakal i przez lzy wolal “niegrzeczny kurczak!” ๐Ÿ˜€ .ย

Summer reflections

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

We’ve been back for few days now and even though it’s dark and pouring outside, good moods don’t leave us. Because there’s no place like home.

It’s always wonderful to visit my homeland, family and friends, but my home is here. Upon visiting Poland, I always face the same question from different people: if I wouldn’t like to move back to Poland. Well, believe it or not, I wouldn’t. I know to some, it sounds like heresy but this is the way I feel. It doesn’t make me less Polish. I was still raised on same books, cartoons, movies, jokes and food as any other Polish my age and so it is very easy for me to bond with other Polish here or anywhere. But I left Poland twelve years ago and all the most wonderful things in my life happened here and happen every day.

il_340x270-870705364_gn5o

I was so excited about the vision of spending full 6 weeks in my parents house, that I hadn’t thought how much I would miss Misi and our life together. That separation wasn’t easy on girls either. Anabel cried nearly every day and she told me : “No child should ever be away from her daddy for so long”. I don’t think we will ever do it again. But having said that, I’m glad we actually did it. Coming back to all I have, made me fall in love with it all over again. Not things, they’re just things. But my husband, my abilities and possibilities, things we do together, we grow or create, we go through.

It’s good to be home but enriched by those beautiful memories. Here my children don’t have granny and grandpa on daily basis, they don’t run wild in big gardens, meadows and fields, they don’t ride on wheelbarrows, spend weekends with cousins, explore garages, stables and barns, hang from trees, eat berries straight from bushes or plums straight from trees, don’t wake up to cock’s crowing, hardly ever see stars. Those are our Polish holidays treasures ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

Hungary 2016

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

As I had mentioned before, we went on holidays, we took a break from normality and due to limited access to internet I also took a break from blogging. But even though we still have some lazy time ahead of us, Hungarian adventure is past us. Even though we had visited Balaton many times before, ย this holidays was filled with many new experiences. First horse ride, first bob ride, first visit to the circus, and for Misike first foreign trip, first flight and first bath in a lake. Luckily, he feels in water like a fish ๐Ÿ™‚ .

I was excited to go but also a bit anxious that with three little children in a new place, it would be more of work than rest because I still would have to keep my eyes on them, clean and wash every day. So I rebelled in the kitchen and announced that during holidays I wouldn’t cook. We ate delicious Hungarian langos all the time.

Choc nad Balatonem bylismy juz wielokrotnie, byl to czas wielu pierwszych razy. Pierwsza przejazdzka konna, pierwszy zjazd bobem, pierwsza wizyta w cyrku, a dla Misike, pierwszy zagraniczny wyjazd, pierwszy lot samolotem i kapiel w jeziorze. ย

Giant Granny in Limerick

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

This weekend Limerick is a totally different city. With city centre closed for cars and filled with thousands of locals and tourists, it’s a busy, vibrant city. And all thanks to one grandma, giant grandma. It was brought to Limerick by Royal de Luxe, French street theatre company, it weights 1 tonne and is 7.5 metres tall. She has her 5 tonne wheelchair, glasses, walking cane. She walks, sneezes and even pees in the middle of the street.

And when giant Granny comes to your city, you must go to see her.ย

W ten weekend Limerick jest zupelnie odmiennym miastem. Z centrum zamknietym dla pojazdow i wypelnionym tysiacami mieszkancow i turystow, Limeirck to zatloczone, tetniace zyciem miasto. A wszystko za sprawa jednej babci, gogantycznej babci. Przywieziona do Limerick przez Royal de Luxe, francuska firme teatrow ulicznych, babcia wazy 1 tone i mierzy 7.5 metra wysokosci. Ma wlasny 5 tonowy wozek, okulary, laske. Chodzi, kicha a nawet siusia na srodku ulicy.

A kiedy babcia przyjezdza do twojego miasta, musisz ja zobaczyc.ย

We were surprised how realistic grandma’s moves are, and her kindly smile and look make you want to hug her.ย

Rosie loved her dress and she decided that granny is her new best friend ( since Anabel stopped being one after they pulled each other’s hair yesterday ๐Ÿ™‚ .ย

Poland

After a long holiday in Poland, December crazyness at work, christmas and new year’s celebrations, it’s time to go back to reality and regular activities, including blogging. I was wondering if I should try to come from behind or just keep going but there are some memories I don’t won’t to loose and I don’t trust my memory.

Stay in Poland was absolutely wonderful. A house full of grandparents, uncles and constant guests was definitely to girls liking. I’m not such a social person and in a long term such pace would be rather tiring to me but being aware that I would not see those dear to me people for next few months, I enjoyed every moment together, every conversation.

Girls love dinosaurs though Rosie still recalls her dream about a dinosaur biting her leg ๐Ÿ˜‰

Dziewczyny uwielbiaja dinozaury choc Rosie do tej pory wspomina swoj sen o dinozaurze, ktory gryzl jej noge ๐Ÿ˜‰ .

Dzeki ( grandparents’ dog) aroused delight among girls, though totally not reciprocated.

Dzeki (pies dziadkow) wzbudzal zachwyt wsrod dziewczyn choc ne do konca odwzajemniony.

The greatest moments to me were those spent in the theatre, opera, cinema and restaurants, so all those places I hardly ever get to visit here.

Dla mnie najfajniejsze momenty to te spedzone w teatrze, operze, kinie, restauracji. Brakuje mi tych kulturalnych wyjsc tu, w Irlandii.

opera

I also filled a bit my love for nature and country. I love beautiful, open, green spaces. I watched with amusement girls’ reaction to mud, soil and long grass. Mixture of fright and disgust. Obviously, love for nature is not hereditary ๐Ÿ˜‰

Zaspokoilam tez choc w malym stopniu moja milosc do natury i wsi. Kocham piekne, zielone, otwarte przestrzenie.

But all three of us absolutely love snow.

Wszystkie trzy natomiast absolutnie kochamy snieg.

snow

Aftwr our recent trip to cinema to see “Frozen”, Anabel asked if we could build a snowman. But there’s no snow- I said. “But grandma has some” ๐Ÿ™‚ . Well, yes.

No tak.

I came back to Ireland inspired and in love with Wroclaw; it’s such an energetic, full of life city and I dream of having a cottage house somewhere near Wroclaw. There’s so much happening there and every time I walk down city’s streets I get that feelling that everything is possible here, and that I could do anything here. Well, maybe some day..

Do Irlandii wrocilam zainspirowana i zakochana we Wroclawiu; to takie enrgiczne , tetniace zyciem miastoย  i marzy mi sie domek gdzies na wsi pod Wroclawiem.ย Coz, moze kiedys…
